New Urban Space in Covent Garden
Christian Garnett Partners LLP have received the backing from City of Westminster and London Boroughs of Camden for a proposed new public space at the junction of Great Queen Street, Drury Lane and Long Acre, in Covent Garden.
The proposal involves replacing the existing four lanes and traffic island with a single lane, one way, that can be sealed at evening and weekends, with remaining traffic re-directed via Parker Street and onto Drury Lane.
New trees, hardlandscaping and lighting within the new public space will create a focal point to the area which situated on an established pedestrian route between Covent Garden Piazza and Lincoln's Inn. The centrepiece of the space will be the monumental entrance to the Masonic Temple, which will be enhanced by feature lighting.
The scheme is currently the subject of pre-application consultations, and it is anticipated that a formal application for Planning Permission will be submitted in the New Year.
